SVRC has its very own posse of cowpokes, gamblers, scouts, lawmen and desperadoes, The Ghost Riders. They get together for a shoot on the third Sunday of every month just as soon as the herd has been moved to the summer pasture ( read: starting in March ). New shooters and spectators are welcome to check out the excitement. As with all shooting events at SVRC, eye and ear protection is required for all participants and spectators.
The Ghost Riders are the Snoqualmie Valley's Single Action Shooting Society local affiliate. Shooting matches are friendly affairs conducted under the rules laid down in the SASS Shooters Hand Book. These rules cover permissible guns, minimal costume requirements, match procedures, and safety. New shooters are encouraged to read the rules, but don't be intimidated by them - The Ghost Riders are a friendly bunch who will be happy to help ladies, gentlemen, and cowboys get started in the adventure of cowboy action shooting.
Each match consists of four to five stages. On each stage the shooter plays the role of a western hero or heroine confronting a passel of villains, represented by reactive steel targets. Before the gunsmoke clears, a whole bunch of lead'll fly from the shooter's sixguns, rifle, and shotgun.
After the shootin's done, the Range Officer records the shooter's time, as measured by the electronic shooting timer. Penalties for misses are added on, and the result is the shooter's score for that stage. Add the stage scores up and you've got the match score. The shooter with the lowest total time is the match winner. The action on a stage can be more than just shootin'.
Props and movement add to the excitement and challenge.
All the shootin' is supervised by a range officer, who helps keep the game safe, fair, and fun.
Cowboy Action Set-upA whole bunch of work goes into preparing the range for a Cowboy Action match. Dozens of steel targets must be placed and aligned. Props, gun racks, loading and unloading tables must be set up for each stage. The job is too big to be done the morning of the shoot, so Cowboy Action gets as much of it done as possible the evening before. With set-up workers downrange, the SVRC Rifle and Pistol ranges are CLOSED from 7PM to 9PM on the Saturday before the Cowboy Action match. Questions? If y'all have any questions about our posse or our shoots, . We'll telegraph it to the nearest Pony Express station and get on back to y'all just as soon as we can. |
